The Not So Big® House

Architect Sarah Susanka, Photographer Randy O'RourkeRandy & Wendy Franz of     R & W Construction Custom Home Remodeling are interested in incorporating the concepts of the Not So Big® House movement (the brainchild of architect, Sarah Susanka) in their work.  The idea behind the Not So Big House is to use the most of your space to individualize it for the way you live and to design a space that favors the QUALITY of that space over the QUANTITY.  You want the money that you spend on your new home or on remodeling your home to be put to the best use.  Instead of designing a home or remodeling a space to have more rooms, bigger spaces, vaulted ceilings, etc., use that money to design what you NEED in your house.  Previously, building was done not for one’s own personal comfort, but to impress and formalize their home and to fit in the cookie cutter idea of what a home should include.  Now, people want to get real and get away from that idea and actually use the space in their home for their own comfort and enjoyment – still making their home a place of peace and enjoyment for their guests too.  By removing walls between rooms, one of which may not even be in much use, you open up the floor plan, creating a space that is lived in and used on a daily basis, while being a beautiful space.  You can enjoy the beauty of a big house with the efficiency of a small one, not using money on square footage that wouldn’t be in much use while creating the expression of the your family's personalities.

Architect Sarah Susanka, Photographer Randy O'RourkeThe Not So Big House isn’t just a small house, rather, it’s a smaller house, filled with special details and designed to accommodate the lifestyles of its occupants, improving quality of life.  Be surrounded by beautiful forms, lots of natural daylight, natural materials and the things that you love.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your home actually fed your spirit?
